R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, Mexic-Arte Museum is the Capitol City's museum
 1-2     dedicated to presenting Mexican, Latino, and Latin American art,
 1-3     and for 15 years many dedicated individuals associated with this
 1-4     noteworthy institution have worked to produce and present
 1-5     outstanding exhibitions and educational programs promoting the
 1-6     artistic heritage of these cultures; and
 1-7           WHEREAS, Mexic-Arte Museum has exemplified the diversity
 1-8     within our state and has created important ties with our
 1-9     neighboring country, Mexico, through its status as one of our
1-10     city's oldest institutions and as a forerunner in presenting
1-11     cultural programs that are deeply rooted in this state; and
1-12           WHEREAS, Individuals, private businesses, foundations, the
1-13     City of Austin, the Texas Commission on the Arts, Mid-America Arts
1-14     Alliance, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Consulate
1-15     General of Mexico in Austin, and others have contributed to
1-16     establishing the museum; and
1-17           WHEREAS, Mexic-Arte Museum has long served as a center of
1-18     Mexican, Mexican American, and Latin American arts programming in
1-19     Texas, coordinating an array of exhibitions and programs in Austin
1-20     and in cities throughout the Lone Star State, including San
1-21     Antonio, El Paso, Corpus Christi, Del Rio, Laredo, Kingsville, and
1-22     Dallas, to name a few; and
1-23           WHEREAS, The official sister museum of the Diego Rivera and
1-24     Frida Kahlo Studio Museum in Mexico City, Mexic-Arte Museum has
 2-1     served as a bridge between Texas and Mexico through its many
 2-2     cultural programs and exchanges; the Consul General of Mexico is an
 2-3     honorary member of the Mexic-Arte Museum Board of Directors, and
 2-4     the Consulate General of Mexico Library is housed at the museum as
 2-5     well; and
 2-6           WHEREAS, Located on Congress Avenue in Austin, just six
 2-7     blocks from the State Capitol, accessible to citizens and visitors,
 2-8     Mexic-Arte Museum is situated in the heart of Texas to showcase
 2-9     Mexican, Mexican American, and Latin American art and culture, and
2-10     it is indeed a privilege to recognize the museum for the many vital
2-11     contributions that it has made toward the education and
2-12     enlightenment of children and adults alike; now, therefore, be it
2-13           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
2-14     Legislature hereby commend  Mexic-Arte Museum for presenting and
2-15     celebrating the heritage and exchange of Mexican, Mexican American,
2-16     and Latin American art and culture and for its valuable
2-17     contributions to the state's culturally rich history; and, be it
2-18     further
2-19           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-20     prepared for Mexic-Arte Museum President Jorge A. Sedeno as an
2-21     expression of high regard from the Texas House of Representatives.
