R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The passing of John Leslie Sherman on December 29, 1-2 1998, at the age of 78, brought a great loss to the family and 1-3 friends of this beloved man; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Born in Soper, Oklahoma, on January 16, 1920, 1-5 Mr. Sherman married the former Norma Ghormley in 1943, in Cisco; he 1-6 honorably served his country as a member of the 84th Infantry 1-7 Division during World War II and was awarded a Purple Heart; and 1-8 WHEREAS, In 1948, Mr. Sherman received a master's degree in 1-9 education administration from Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene; 1-10 he was an educator and administrator for the school districts of 1-11 Cisco, Abilene, Imperial, and Kerrville until 1962, when he 1-12 established Leslie Sherman Agency, currently known as Sherman & 1-13 Company Realtors; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Compassionate and loyal, Mr. Sherman provided a 1-15 foundation of love and kindness for his family, and during his 1-16 56-year marriage, he and his wife created many cherished family 1-17 memories with their two children and their four grandchildren; and 1-18 WHEREAS, Mr. Sherman loved the outdoors and could often be 1-19 found fishing, tending to a variety of trees and plants, and 1-20 harvesting peaches or pecans; a member of the First Baptist Church, 1-21 he was an ordained deacon and a Sunday school teacher and served on 1-22 various committees, including the Evangelistic and Scholarship 1-23 committees, and as a member of the board of directors for Rudy 1-24 Hernandez Evangelism International; and 2-1 WHEREAS, This outstanding gentleman devoted much time to his 2-2 family and his community, and though his dedication and wisdom will 2-3 be greatly missed, his memory will long endure in the hearts and 2-4 minds of those who were privileged to know him; now, therefore, be 2-5 it 2-6 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 2-7 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of John Leslie Sherman 2-8 and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his 2-9 wife, Norma Sherman; to his daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne and 2-10 Terry Jacobs; to his son and daughter-in-law, Leslie Don and LuAnne 2-11 Sherman; to his grandchildren, Christy Richardson and her husband, 2-12 Damon, Stephanie Knight and her husband, Clayton, Audrey Sherman, 2-13 and Sophia Sherman; to his sister and brother-in-law, Nadine and 2-14 Bob Summers; to his brother and sister-in-law, Marshall and Mary 2-15 Sherman; to his sister-in-law, Effie Sherman; and to the many other 2-16 relatives and friends of this esteemed gentleman; and, be it 2-17 further 2-18 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-19 prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas 2-20 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of 2-21 John Leslie Sherman.
