No. 984 76R15709 BE-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives takes great pride 1-2 in recognizing the Honorable Wilhelmina Ruth Fitzgerald Delco, a 1-3 former member of this legislative body, on being named a "Legend of 1-4 Texas," for her many years of hard work in behalf of Texas 1-5 education indeed merit special legislative recognition; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Chosen as a "Legend of Texas" by Del Webb's Sun City 1-7 Georgetown, Mrs. Delco is one of six individuals to be named at 1-8 the fourth annual ceremony for the organization's Legends of Texas 1-9 Bridge on June 8, 1999; and 1-10 WHEREAS, A "Legend of Texas" is an extraordinary individual 1-11 who has touched the lives of many and has made Texas a better place 1-12 in which to live; and 1-13 WHEREAS, Mrs. Delco is known for her commitment to public 1-14 service, particularly education; she was the first African-American 1-15 woman elected to public office in Austin when she won a seat on 1-16 the Austin Independent School District Board of Trustees in 1968; 1-17 and 1-18 WHEREAS, She served 10 terms in the Texas House of 1-19 Representatives and chaired the House Committee on Higher 1-20 Education; she has been honored by virtually every national 1-21 education board for her many years of diligent and exceptional 1-22 service, and she continues to be an active force in Texas 1-23 education; and 1-24 WHEREAS, This remarkable public servant has always dedicated 2-1 her career to the citizens of Texas, and it is a distinct pleasure 2-2 to join her many friends and family in paying tribute to her as a 2-3 "Legend of Texas"; now, therefore, be it 2-4 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 2-5 Legislature hereby congratulate the Honorable Wilhelmina Ruth 2-6 Fitzgerald Delco on being named a "Legend of Texas" and extend to 2-7 her warmest best wishes for great success and happiness in the 2-8 years to come; and, be it further 2-9 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-10 prepared for Mrs. Delco as an expression of highest regard by the 2-11 Texas House of Representatives.
