R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor
1-2 the Southwest Texas State University softball team for its
1-3 record-setting 1999 season; and
1-4 WHEREAS, Head coach Lea Ann Jarvis and her coaching staff
1-5 skillfully guided the Bobcats to a record number of victories and
1-6 their inaugural appearance in the NCAA Tournament; in addition to
1-7 notching record totals in runs, hits, and runs batted in, the team
1-8 also claimed its first Southland Conference Tournament title since
1-9 1989, marching to victory as a sixth seed; and
1-10 WHEREAS, A host of individual records were bested during this
1-11 stellar campaign as well, including doubles and walks in a season
1-12 by shortstop Elizabeth Wissel, doubles in a game by utility player
1-13 Perri Yarbrough, and at bats in a season by second baseman Haley
1-14 Gaddis; a first team All-Southland Conference selection, freshman
1-15 Amber Mosher was the workhorse of the pitching staff, surpassing
1-16 the school record for wins and strikeouts in a season; and
1-17 WHEREAS, This remarkable season would not have been possible
1-18 without the contributions of all the talented team members,
1-19 including Christine Caffey, Lindsay Carroll, Jessica Chase, Haley
1-20 Gaddis, Carmen Grindell, Heather Havins, Stephanie Hughes, Jennifer
1-21 Jarl, Sarah Kmiec, Joslyn McWhorter, Amber Mosher, Rosie Perez,
1-22 Jennie Tomme, Elizabeth Wissel, Perri Yarbrough, and Jennifer
1-23 Youngdale; and
1-24 WHEREAS, The dedication and competitive spirit of the
2-1 Southwest Texas State University softball team are truly
2-2 commendable, and it is indeed appropriate to recognize the team for
2-3 its exceptional 1999 season; now, therefore, be it
2-4 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
2-5 Legislature hereby congratulate the players and coaches of the
2-6 Southwest Texas State University softball team for an outstanding
2-7 1999 season and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued
2-8 success; and, be it further
2-9 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-10 prepared for the Southwest Texas State University softball team as
2-11 an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
