R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The family and many friends of Johnny Morris Moore
 1-2     of Sweetwater, Texas, were greatly saddened by his passing on March
 1-3     27, 1998, at the age of 78; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, After completing high school in Westbrook, Texas,
 1-5     this distinguished gentleman attended Tarleton State University in
 1-6     Stephenville before moving to Washington, D.C., where he worked for
 1-7     the FBI and attended George Washington University; and
 1-8           WHEREAS, During World War II, Mr. Moore enlisted in the 8th
 1-9     Air Force of the United States Army and served in England,
1-10     completing his service in the Criminal Investigation Division; he
1-11     then returned to the FBI and after graduating from George
1-12     Washington University enrolled in The University of Texas at Austin
1-13     law school in 1946; and
1-14           WHEREAS, Following his graduation from law school he went
1-15     into partnership with Charles C. Thompson in Colorado City, Texas;
1-16     in 1957 he joined the Sweetwater law firm of Mays and Leonard,
1-17     which later became Moore, Dickson, Maxwell, and Baker, and
1-18     continued his association with this estimable firm until his
1-19     passing; and
1-20           WHEREAS, In addition to serving as a deacon and elder in the
1-21     Presbyterian church, the civic-minded Mr. Moore was active in
1-22     Colorado City with the Jaycees, Lions Club, Boy Scouts of America,
1-23     and the school board; while in Sweetwater he donated his time to
1-24     the Child Welfare Board, chamber of commerce, Industrial
 2-1     Foundation, and First National Bank; he was a member of the
 2-2     grievance committee of the state bar and a life member of the Texas
 2-3     Bar Foundation; and
 2-4           WHEREAS, Although Johnny Morris Moore is deeply missed, his
 2-5     spirit lives on in the hearts and minds of all those fortunate
 2-6     enough to have known him, and it is indeed fitting to honor his
 2-7     memory at this time; now, therefore, be it
 2-8           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
 2-9     Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Johnny Morris Moore
2-10     and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his
2-11     wife, the former Alice Louise Mills; to his two sons, John Charles
2-12     and Stephen Morris Moore; and to his many other relatives and
2-13     friends; and, be it further
2-14           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-15     prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas
2-16     House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
2-17     Johnny Morris Moore.
