R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives takes great pride 1-2 in recognizing Dr. Thelma J. White on her receipt of a 1-3 Distinguished Alumnus Award from the School of Education at The 1-4 University of Texas at Austin, for this high honor indeed merits 1-5 special legislative recognition; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Dr. White has strong ties to the Lone Star State, 1-7 earning bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of 1-8 Houston and a doctorate in higher education administration from The 1-9 University of Texas at Austin; she served a respected 18-year 1-10 tenure with Galveston College in a number of roles, including 1-11 assistant dean of student life and minority affairs, program 1-12 director and instructor of vocational nursing, and department 1-13 chair; and 1-14 WHEREAS, She was the district executive dean of student 1-15 services at Pierce College in Tacoma, Washington, for five years 1-16 before being appointed to her present position as president of 1-17 Elizabethtown Community College, a part of the Kentucky Community 1-18 and Technical College System; and 1-19 WHEREAS, Throughout her career, Dr. White has worked closely 1-20 with community and government leaders to develop partnerships 1-21 between colleges and the communities they serve; she has remained 1-22 committed to increasing access to higher education and to the 1-23 development of programs and services that ensure success; and 1-24 WHEREAS, She has a solid understanding of the challenges 2-1 facing community colleges today; through her ability as an 2-2 instructor, her capability in governance, and her exceptional 2-3 experience in developing school structure, Dr. White has made a 2-4 lasting impact on the lives of countless students, and it is justly 2-5 fitting to honor her at this time; now, therefore, be it 2-6 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 2-7 Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Thelma J. White on the occasion 2-8 of her receipt of the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the School 2-9 of Education at The University of Texas at Austin and extend to her 2-10 warmest best wishes for even greater success and happiness in the 2-11 years ahead; and, be it further 2-12 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-13 prepared for Dr. White as an expression of high regard by the Texas 2-14 House of Representatives.
