No. 1033 76R16303 GMW-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Odyssey of the Mind team from Barbara Bush 1-2 Middle School in San Antonio won first place in Division II at the 1-3 Central Texas Regional Competition, and this outstanding 1-4 accomplishment is indeed worthy of special recognition; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Odyssey of the Mind is a worldwide program that 1-6 promotes team-based creative problem solving through mentally 1-7 challenging activities and competitions; at the regional 1-8 competition held in Kerrville, the Barbara Bush Middle School 1-9 seven-member team excelled in both the long-term project and the 1-10 five-minute spontaneous problem to claim top honors and earn the 1-11 opportunity to compete in the state competition in El Paso; and 1-12 WHEREAS, Their long-term project for the RatiOMetric 1-13 Structure competition required the team to create a structure out 1-14 of balsa wood and glue that weighed very little yet could 1-15 efficiently support a great deal of weight; their winning structure 1-16 weighed a mere 10 grams and supported an astounding 435 pounds; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Now in its first year of operation, Barbara Bush 1-18 Middle School can take great pride in its inaugural Odyssey of the 1-19 Mind team, which includes Ted Cackowsky, Ryan Moursund, Ashley 1-20 Williams, Michael Arth, Karlo Castillo, Tavish DeAtley, and Katy 1-21 Stevens; these talented young people received invaluable support 1-22 from teacher and team supervisor Jennifer Bartel, parent coach Kent 1-23 Stevens, and principal Dr. Kaye Fenn; and 1-24 WHEREAS, The determination and ingenuity demonstrated by all 2-1 the members of the Barbara Bush Middle School Odyssey of the Mind 2-2 team are truly commendable, and it is most fitting that we honor 2-3 them for their remarkable achievement at this time; now, therefore, 2-4 be it 2-5 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 2-6 Legislature hereby congratulate the members of the Barbara Bush 2-7 Middle School Odyssey of the Mind team on winning first place in 2-8 Division II at the Central Texas Regional Competition and extend to 2-9 them sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, 2-10 be it further 2-11 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-12 prepared for the Barbara Bush Middle School Odyssey of the Mind 2-13 team as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of 2-14 Representatives.
