R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, May 12, 1999, marked the 100th anniversary of the
 1-2     founding of Alamo Elementary School in El Paso, and this historic
 1-3     event indeed merits special legislative recognition; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, Located on Tays Street, less than a mile from
 1-5     downtown and the United States-Mexico border, the school is the
 1-6     second oldest in the El Paso Independent School District; Alamo
 1-7     Elementary School has witnessed a century of progress in El Paso
 1-8     and offers a unique perspective into the past for students and
 1-9     teachers alike; and
1-10           WHEREAS, To celebrate the school's centennial, the campus
1-11     will sponsor a series of festivities, including a golf tournament
1-12     and three-mile race; students will decorate the halls with
1-13     illustrations that depict the events, artifacts, and architecture
1-14     of various eras, and the school will host a tardeada, an afternoon
1-15     party, to mark the special day; and
1-16           WHEREAS, Generations of El Pasoans have fond memories of
1-17     Alamo Elementary School, and as they celebrate this significant
1-18     milestone in its history, it is a great pleasure to join them in
1-19     paying tribute to this grand old school; now, therefore, be it
1-20           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
1-21     Legislature hereby commemorate the centennial of Alamo Elementary
1-22     School and extend to all those associated with this treasured El
1-23     Paso landmark best wishes for a memorable celebration; and, be it
1-24     further
 2-1           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 2-2     prepared for Alamo Elementary School as an expression of high
 2-3     regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
