                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, An 80th birthday is truly a cause for celebration,
 1-2     and on May 5, 1999, Hazelle A. Pulliam will observe one such
 1-3     significant milestone in her life; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, Born on May 5, 1919, in Briggs, Ms. Pulliam is a
 1-5     woman of great determination and strength of spirit that have
 1-6     served her well throughout her life; and
 1-7           WHEREAS, She moved to Austin with her mother and younger
 1-8     sister as a teenager, and after graduating from high school and
 1-9     secretarial school, she went to work for the state at the Texas
1-10     Department of Public Safety and then the Texas Education Agency,
1-11     Textbook Division; during a public service career spanning more
1-12     than four decades, Ms. Pulliam also worked closely with the Texas
1-13     Legislature and remains a loyal supporter; and
1-14           WHEREAS, Standing less than five feet tall, this inspiring
1-15     woman may be diminutive in stature but she projects a larger than
1-16     life presence; she promotes education as a gift available to adults
1-17     as well as children, and she is happiest when helping children find
1-18     delight in the world around them; and
1-19           WHEREAS, Affectionately know as "Aunt Hay" she has a loving
1-20     extended family that resides in El Paso and shares her birthday
1-21     with a nephew, Richard Pulliam, born on May 5, 1961, and a niece,
1-22     Amanda Williams, born on May 5, 1977; she helped raise another
1-23     niece, Kimberly Pulliam Ruiz, and dotes on all her family,
1-24     including her great-great nephews, Ty Pulliam and Marshall Ruiz;
 2-1     and
 2-2           WHEREAS, For 80 years, Hazelle Pulliam has lived a life full
 2-3     of caring and generosity; her warmth and wisdom have enriched the
 2-4     lives of countless Texans and she is cherished by her family and
 2-5     many friends; now, therefore, be it
 2-6           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
 2-7     Legislature hereby congratulate Hazelle A. Pulliam on the occasion
 2-8     of her 80th birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes for the
 2-9     future; and, be it further
2-10           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-11     prepared for Ms. Pulliam as an expression of highest regard by the
2-12     Texas House of Representatives.
