                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The Woodlands High School Highlanders track team has
 1-2     achieved a pinnacle of success by winning the 1999 UIL Class 5A
 1-3     state championship; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, Competing at the state track and field championships
 1-5     at Mike A.  Myers Stadium in Austin, the Highlanders won the
 1-6     coveted crown in convincing fashion by totaling 54 points; and
 1-7           WHEREAS, The Woodlands squad earned five silver medals during
 1-8     the course of the competition: Chris Emme led the Highlanders by
 1-9     finishing second in the 3,200 and 1,600 meter events; Josh Ralston
1-10     finished second in the discus; Russell Benke was the silver
1-11     medalist in the pole vault; and the 1,600 meter relay team of Kevin
1-12     Bowen, David Chesser, LaRoy Callier, and Brandon Boyd claimed
1-13     second place in their event; and
1-14           WHEREAS, These dedicated young men, together with their
1-15     coaches and staff, are a source of tremendous pride to the students
1-16     and faculty at The Woodlands High School, as well as their many
1-17     supporters in the community, and it is indeed appropriate that they
1-18     be honored at this time; now, therefore, be it
1-19           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
1-20     Legislature hereby congratulate The Woodlands High School track
1-21     team on winning the 1999 UIL Class 5A state track and field title,
1-22     and extend to the team members sincere best wishes for continued
1-23     success; and, be it further
1-24           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 2-1     prepared for The Woodlands High School track team as an expression
 2-2     of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
