R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, Harris County residents will celebrate the 10th
 1-2     anniversary of the founding of Lyndon B.  Johnson General Hospital
 1-3     in Houston on June 2, 1999; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, Originally built to replace the obstetric,
 1-5     pediatric, and pulmonary specialty services previously offered by
 1-6     Jefferson Davis Hospital, the institution has through the decade
 1-7     expanded its circle of care options to become a general hospital;
 1-8     and
 1-9           WHEREAS, Part of the Harris County Hospital District, the
1-10     facility plays a pivotal role in the health care of families
1-11     throughout the county; the 315-bed hospital was the first level 3
1-12     trauma center in the state and, together with one other Houston
1-13     hospital, provides 77 percent of all trauma care in the area; and
1-14           WHEREAS, LBJ General Hospital is affiliated with The
1-15     University of Texas Medical School in Houston and is known for its
1-16     obstetric and neonatal care in addition to its full complement of
1-17     specialty clinics; in 1998, the staff admitted 19,274 patients,
1-18     responded to 86,232 emergency room visits, and provided treatment
1-19     for 81,368 specialty clinic patients; and
1-20           WHEREAS, Lyndon B. Johnson General Hospital has provided
1-21     much-needed health care and emergency services for countless
1-22     residents of the Lone Star State during its first decade of
1-23     existence, and it truly merits special recognition on the occasion
1-24     of this anniversary milestone; now, therefore, be it
 2-1           RESOLVED, That the House of Representative of the 76th Texas
 2-2     Legislature  hereby commemorate the 10th anniversary of the
 2-3     founding of Lyndon B. Johnson General Hospital and extend sincere
 2-4     best wishes to its administrators, staff, and volunteers for
 2-5     continued success; and, be it further
 2-6           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 2-7     prepared for prominent display at Lyndon B. Johnson General
 2-8     Hospital as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of
 2-9     Representatives.
