No. 1082 76R16621 JBR-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor 1-2 Vera Kirksey Lacy for her leadership and dedication as an educator 1-3 in the Lone Star State; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Mrs. Lacy graduated as valedictorian of Wiergate 1-5 High School in 1938, received a bachelor of arts degree in music, 1-6 with a minor in education, from Prairie View Normal and Industrial 1-7 College in 1944, and earned a master of arts degree in music from 1-8 Texas Southern University in 1952; and 1-9 WHEREAS, This devoted woman has complemented her degrees with 1-10 continuing education courses specifically related to the field of 1-11 education and by earning additional teaching certificates for 1-12 elementary school education, math education, and special education; 1-13 and 1-14 WHEREAS, Mrs. Lacy has been employed in Newton County for all 1-15 of her 57 years in education, and her noteworthy tenure began at 1-16 Biloxia High School; since that time she has taught for Marsh 1-17 Elementary School, Wiergate High School, and the Burkeville 1-18 Independent School District; and 1-19 WHEREAS, Mrs. Lacy is a woman of many talents and has taught 1-20 all of the following subjects: music, language arts, science, 1-21 fundamentals of math, algebra, geometry, and special education; and 1-22 this fine woman was recognized for her laudable achievements with 1-23 an award as "Teacher of the Year" for Wiergate High School in 1969; 1-24 and 2-1 WHEREAS, In addition to her career in education Mrs. Lacy is 2-2 a devoted wife and mother, and has enjoyed a loving relationship 2-3 with her husband, Raymon, who is an educator at Burkeville High 2-4 School; their strong and lasting union has been blessed with the 2-5 addition of a daughter, Dr. Debra Lacy Lincoln; and 2-6 WHEREAS, Vera Lacy is a valuable resource for her colleagues 2-7 and has made many contributions to the field of education, while 2-8 working to improve, develop, and enrich the lives of her fellow 2-9 Texans; her commitment to the schoolchildren of Newton County has 2-10 earned her a place in the hearts of many students and the respect 2-11 of countless community members and parents; now, therefore, be it 2-12 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 2-13 Legislature hereby commend Vera Kirksey Lacy for her outstanding 2-14 service to the schools in Newton County and extend to her sincere 2-15 best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further 2-16 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-17 prepared for Mrs. Lacy as an expression of high regard by the Texas 2-18 House of Representatives.
