R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Juan DeDios Hinojosa, who was beloved during his 1-2 lifetime as a patient man with a big heart, was born on June 24, 1-3 1926, in Penitas, Texas; and 1-4 WHEREAS, He was known as "Un Hombre de la Gente" in Penitas, 1-5 one of the oldest Indian settlements in the United States; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Raised in the cotton fields of Penitas, Mr. Hinojosa 1-7 met his future bride, Esperanza Vela, a fellow farm worker, and the 1-8 two worked side by side in the prolific fruit and vegetable fields 1-9 of the Rio Grande Valley; and 1-10 WHEREAS, The couple were married on March 5, 1945, and 1-11 enjoyed a deeply committed relationship that was based on mutual 1-12 love, trust, and respect; the Hinojosas were blessed with eight 1-13 children: Juan Jesus, Jose Piedad, San Juanita, Gilberto, Sylvia, 1-14 Javier, Juan DeDios, Jr., and Martin; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Devoted to the well-being of his family, 1-16 Mr. Hinojosa worked as a farm worker, a truck driver, and a service 1-17 station attendant over the course of his life in order to provide 1-18 for his loved ones; he was a strong proponent of education as the 1-19 best equalizer that we have in our society, and he kept his promise 1-20 that all his children would graduate from high school, no matter 1-21 what the cost; and 1-22 WHEREAS, His passing on November 16, 1977, brought a great 1-23 loss to his family and many friends; to his children, this fine man 1-24 was not only their father, but a close friend, and his memory lives 2-1 on in the hearts of all who were privileged to know him; now, 2-2 therefore, be it 2-3 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 2-4 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Juan DeDios Hinojosa 2-5 by dedicating the World Birding Center Headquarters in Bentsen 2-6 State Park-Mission in honor of this great man of the people; and, 2-7 be it further 2-8 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-9 prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas 2-10 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of 2-11 Juan DeDios Hinojosa.
