R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor 1-2 Marc Trust on his selection as the 1999 Letters About Literature 1-3 winner for the State of Texas; and 1-4 WHEREAS, A seventh grade student at Trautmann Middle School 1-5 in Laredo, Marc wrote a letter to Leo Buscaglia, the author of his 1-6 favorite book, The Fall of Freddie the Leaf; his letter was chosen 1-7 from more than 2,000 entries, and as the winner of the contest he 1-8 received two round-trip tickets to Dallas and a $100 cash award; 1-9 and 1-10 WHEREAS, Marc's letter praises the book, particularly its 1-11 dealings with the issues of death and dying; in his letter he told 1-12 Mr. Buscaglia that the characters in the book reminded him of his 1-13 grandfather and great-aunt, who had recently passed away, and 1-14 explained how the book has helped him and other young children as 1-15 they try to understand death; and 1-16 WHEREAS, To receive his award, Marc and his parents attended 1-17 the Texas Library Association Conference (TLAC), where Marc read 1-18 his letter for the TLAC members; and 1-19 WHEREAS, A young man with a bright future, Marc Trust is a 1-20 source of great pride to his parents and to the members of his 1-21 community, and it is fitting that he be recognized for his 1-22 impressive achievement; now, therefore, be it 1-23 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 1-24 Legislature hereby congratulate Marc Trust for winning the 1999 2-1 Letters About Literature contest and extend to him sincere best 2-2 wishes for good fortune and happiness in the future; and, be it 2-3 further 2-4 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-5 prepared for Mr. Trust as an expression of high regard by the Texas 2-6 House of Representatives.
