                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, Girl Power! was launched on November 21, 1996, as a
 1-2     national public education campaign to help encourage and empower
 1-3     9-year-old to 14-year-old girls to realize their full potential;
 1-4     and
 1-5           WHEREAS, El Paso's Sageland Elementary School is home to one
 1-6     such Girl Power! group, and 15 of its members and their mothers are
 1-7     visiting Austin from May 24 to May 26, 1999, for the girls to learn
 1-8     more about available career options and postsecondary educational
 1-9     opportunities; their itinerary includes visits to The University of
1-10     Texas at Austin and a tour of the State Capitol; and
1-11           WHEREAS, Girl Power! is an exemplary program that provides
1-12     opportunities for girls to receive the support and attention they
1-13     need to follow their interests and reach for their dreams, and the
1-14     members of this chamber take great pride in welcoming the visiting
1-15     Girl Power! delegation to Austin; now, therefore, be it
1-16           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
1-17     Legislature hereby commend the members of Sageland Elementary
1-18     School's Girl Power! group and their mothers for their outstanding
1-19     efforts to embrace the challenges and opportunities that await
1-20     them; and, be it further
1-21           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
1-22     prepared for the Sageland Elementary School Girl Power! group as an
1-23     expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
