                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, David Schultz of Harlingen gave his life for his
 1-2     country and the cause of freedom, and although he is deeply missed,
 1-3     his spirit lives on in the hearts and minds of all those whose
 1-4     lives he touched; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, This brave young man was serving as a soldier in the
 1-6     United States Army during the Vietnam War when the helicopter he
 1-7     was riding in was shot down, tragically ending his life at the age
 1-8     of 18; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, In an extraordinary humanitarian act, he had named
1-10     the Christian Youth Ranch, a program of the Grace Community Church
1-11     in Pharr, as the beneficiary of his life insurance policy;
1-12     Mr. Schultz had been highly active with the group and bequeathed
1-13     the money to construct a facility so that local youth would have a
1-14     place where they could find a purpose in life; and
1-15           WHEREAS, In 1998 Mr. Schultz's mother, Mrs. Truman Oliver,
1-16     became the second person in Texas to be issued the "Gold Star
1-17     Mother" memorial license plate, which is designed for mothers whose
1-18     children have made the ultimate sacrifice during a time of war; and
1-19           WHEREAS, Throughout his life David Schultz distinguished
1-20     himself as a young man of talent, compassion, and integrity, and it
1-21     is truly fitting to honor his memory at this time; now, therefore,
1-22     be it
1-23           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
1-24     Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of David Schultz and
 2-1     join with the members of his family in honoring his memory; and, be
 2-2     it further
 2-3           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 2-4     prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas
 2-5     House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
 2-6     David Schultz.
