No. 1216 76R17608 BE-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The sudden and untimely loss of prominent Waxahachie 1-2 attorney Steven Adams Kelley, on May 21, 1999, at the age of 49, 1-3 has brought a great loss to the family and many friends of this 1-4 esteemed Texan, and to the community of which he was such a valued 1-5 member; and 1-6 WHEREAS, A 1968 graduate of Waxahachie High School, 1-7 Mr. Kelley attended Texas A&M University before serving four years 1-8 with the U.S. Marines and seeing active duty in the Vietnam War; on 1-9 returning home to Texas, Mr. Kelley entered Southwest Texas State 1-10 University and graduated from that institution in 1976; and 1-11 WHEREAS, He went on to attend St. Mary's Law School and 1-12 received his degree in 1978; after graduation he returned to 1-13 Waxahachie as assistant district attorney, and he soon established 1-14 a well-regarded reputation for diligence and ability; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Mr. Kelley opened a private practice as a criminal 1-16 defense attorney in 1980, and his generosity and dedication in 1-17 behalf of clients and friends earned him great respect; he was an 1-18 active member of First United Methodist Church and a former member 1-19 of the area Rotary Club, serving as the first president of the 1-20 Interact Club of Rotary at Waxahachie High School; and 1-21 WHEREAS, He was a devoted family man who enjoyed fishing and 1-22 golf, and though his loss will be felt deeply, surely his spirit 1-23 lives on in the hearts and minds of all those whose lives he 1-24 touched, and it is indeed appropriate to honor his memory at this 2-1 time; now, therefore, be it 2-2 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 2-3 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Steve Kelley and 2-4 extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his 2-5 beloved wife of 25 years, Cindy Kelley; to his daughter, Chesney, 2-6 and her husband, Sergeant Bob Wilson; to his parents, Dr. Jack and 2-7 Geneva Kelley; to his parents-in-law, Tehama and Wayland Thompson; 2-8 to his brothers, Pat Kelley and his wife, Martha, and Bill Kelley 2-9 and his wife, Leanne; and to his brothers-in-law, Marc Thompson and 2-10 his wife Wendy, and Les Thompson; and to the many other family 2-11 members and friends of this admirable gentleman; and, be it further 2-12 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-13 prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas 2-14 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of 2-15 Steven Adams Kelley.
