R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The Bexar Metropolitan Water District has for more
 1-2     than a half-century worked to ensure that area residents have
 1-3     access to a plentiful source of usable water resources; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, Created in 1945 by the 49th Texas Legislature, the
 1-5     Bexar Metropolitan Water District is a political subdivision
 1-6     responsible for the control, conservation, protection,
 1-7     preservation, distribution, and utilization of rivers, streams, and
 1-8     underground water, as well as storm and flood waters, within its
 1-9     jurisdiction; and
1-10           WHEREAS, The district currently serves some 80,000 metered
1-11     residences and businesses and provides water to more than 325,000
1-12     individuals in Bexar, Atascosa, Comal, and Medina counties; and
1-13           WHEREAS, Among the water district's most challenging projects
1-14     has been the enforced reduction of water allocations from the
1-15     Edwards Aquifer, but through determined and visionary leadership,
1-16     BexarMet has promoted a number of innovative initiatives to address
1-17     this necessary goal; and
1-18           WHEREAS, In recognition of its many notable achievements, the
1-19     Texas Natural Resource Conservation Commission honored the district
1-20     with its highest ranking, certifying BexarMet as a superior rated
1-21     utility; and
1-22           WHEREAS, Maintaining an abundant supply of water is essential
1-23     to ensuring a region's vitality, and the many outstanding
1-24     accomplishments in this regard by the Bexar Metropolitan Water
 2-1     District make it indeed worthy of special recognition at this time;
 2-2     now, therefore, be it
 2-3           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
 2-4     Legislature hereby commend the board of directors and staff of the
 2-5     Bexar Metropolitan Water District and extend to them sincere best
 2-6     wishes for continued success; and, be it further
 2-7           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 2-8     prepared for the Bexar Metropolitan Water District as an expression
 2-9     of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
