No. 1234 76R17693 JHS-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The New England Colony Chapter of the National 1-2 Society Colonial Dames XVII Century recently installed its 1999 1-3 officers, and these exemplary individuals are indeed deserving of 1-4 special legislative recognition for their dedicated service to this 1-5 noted organization; and 1-6 WHEREAS, The 1999 officers include: President Mabel Clark, 1-7 Vice President Elaine Roddy, Chaplain Louise Oder, Recording 1-8 Secretary Dorothy Brooks, Corresponding Secretary Nancy Fletcher, 1-9 Treasurer Merita Barbee, Registrar Margaret Merritt, Librarian 1-10 Helen Merrill, Historian Elizabeth Mayes, and Parliamentarian Mary 1-11 Aikman; and 1-12 WHEREAS, Founded in July 1915, the group's membership has 1-13 grown to approximately 8,000 active members in 27 state societies 1-14 and 210 chapters, with 4,000 colonial ancestors represented; and 1-15 WHEREAS, The Colonial Dames are dedicated to preserving the 1-16 records and historic sites of our country and to fostering interest 1-17 in historical colonial research; members also devote time and 1-18 energy to educating America's youth and to commemorating the noble 1-19 and heroic deeds of the founders of the United States; and 1-20 WHEREAS, By working to maintain the high principles of 1-21 virtue, courage, and patriotism that were such an integral part of 1-22 our nation's independence movement, the Colonial Dames have played 1-23 a vital role in ensuring the continued forward progress of our 1-24 country, and it is indeed a pleasure to honor this outstanding 2-1 group at this time; now, therefore, be it 2-2 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 2-3 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the 1999 officers of the New 2-4 England Colony Chapter of the National Society Colonial Dames XVII 2-5 Century and extend best wishes to all those individuals who are 2-6 associated with this venerable organization; and, be it further 2-7 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-8 prepared for the members of the New England Colony Chapter of the 2-9 National Society Colonial Dames XVII Century as an expression of 2-10 high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
