R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, For 140 days every other year the personal lives of
1-2 countless employees of the Texas house and related legislative
1-3 service agencies come to a screeching halt as the regular session
1-4 and pressing matters of state government loom largely on the
1-5 horizon; and
1-6 WHEREAS, Few people who aren't actually employed in this line
1-7 of work can truly understand the physical and emotional toll it
1-8 takes on those who are; yet, while the demands are great, so too
1-9 are its rewards, for as the legislative process unfolds before our
1-10 eyes, great steps are being taken to improve the lives of many
1-11 Texans and to enhance and preserve this great state for future
1-12 generations; and
1-13 WHEREAS, Among those on the front line of service are the
1-14 dedicated staff employed in members' offices, where each session
1-15 both seasoned veterans and relative newcomers to the State Capitol
1-16 contribute their time and energy to assist their bosses with their
1-17 legislative programs and address the needs of the citizens back
1-18 home; and
1-19 WHEREAS, Working more behind the scenes are the staff of
1-20 numerous legislative service agencies, including the State
1-21 Auditor's Office, the Legislative Budget Board, the Texas
1-22 Legislative Council, the Legislative Reference Library, and the
1-23 Sunset Advisory Commission, all of whom play an essential role in
1-24 ensuring the success of every legislative session; and
2-1 WHEREAS, Though at this time of the year their bodies are
2-2 tired, tempers are flaring, and families are stressed, legislative
2-3 support staff are a resilient breed who enjoy the camaraderie of
2-4 their peers in the trenches and wouldn't trade their jobs for any
2-5 other in the world; today, the members of this chamber would like
2-6 to honor all of these remarkable people who have made great
2-7 sacrifices to be a part of the madness that is the legislative
2-8 session; now, therefore, be it
2-9 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
2-10 Legislature hereby commend all legislative employees and support
2-11 staff for their extraordinary efforts in behalf of the legislature
2-12 during this regular session and extend to them our heartfelt
2-13 appreciation for their selfless contributions to good government in
2-14 the Lone Star State.
