No. 1275 76R17806 MDM-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor 1-2 Dale Garcia for his outstanding contributions to the citizens of 1-3 San Antonio; and 1-4 WHEREAS, A native of New Mexico, he was born into a family 1-5 devoted to public service and moved to San Antonio in 1990 from his 1-6 hometown of Santa Fe; in addition to his work as a public relations 1-7 professional, he has devoted much time and energy to promoting 1-8 education and helping youth; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Mr. Garcia has served as president of the Highlands 1-10 High School Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) since 1997 and has 1-11 personally volunteered more than 1,000 hours to the organization; 1-12 under his dynamic leadership, the PTA has experienced a 25 percent 1-13 increase in membership and has expanded the number of scholarships 1-14 awarded to graduating seniors from 2 to 12; and 1-15 WHEREAS, He has been instrumental in the success of several 1-16 new projects at Highlands High School, including the community 1-17 service program, in which students from government and economics 1-18 classes volunteer their time to support community events and 1-19 participate in political campaigns; as a result of Mr. Garcia's 1-20 leadership, the school also had the honor of hosting the San 1-21 Antonio Independent School District 1999 PTA Founders Day Banquet; 1-22 and 1-23 WHEREAS, Mr. Garcia coordinated the performance of the 1-24 Highlands Mariachi for President Bill Clinton when he visited San 2-1 Antonio, and in 1993, he arranged a concert for San Antonio ISD 2-2 students by inspirational Tejano artists; and 2-3 WHEREAS, Since 1995, this respected civic leader has served 2-4 as the director of promotions/entertainment for the annual Raul 2-5 Jimenez Dinner, a Thanksgiving meal for the homeless; his volunteer 2-6 commitments also include membership with the Highlands High School 2-7 Instructional Leadership Team, the McCreless Library Friends, the 2-8 Highland Hills Neighborhood Association, and the school district's 2-9 Citizens Bond Advisory Committee, Tax Abatement Committee, and 2-10 Strategy X Action Team Committee; and 2-11 WHEREAS, Dale Garcia has demonstrated tireless dedication to 2-12 the betterment of his community, and he is indeed deserving of 2-13 special legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it 2-14 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 2-15 Legislature hereby commend Dale Garcia for his myriad efforts in 2-16 behalf of the citizens of San Antonio and extend to him best wishes 2-17 for continued success and happiness in his new post with the New 2-18 Mexico Office of the Secretary of State; and, be it further 2-19 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-20 prepared for Mr. Garcia as an expression of high regard by the 2-21 Texas House of Representatives.
