No. 1278 76R17955 WMS-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The cities of Austin, Waco, Nacogdoches, Lufkin, 1-2 Greenville, Taylor, Whitehouse, Muenster, and Quintana are the 1-3 winners of the 1998-1999 Keep Texas Beautiful Governor's Community 1-4 Achievement Awards; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Cosponsored by the Texas Department of 1-6 Transportation (TxDOT), this award program recognizes communities 1-7 in nine population categories for their grassroots efforts to 1-8 improve the local environment through litter prevention, solid 1-9 waste management and recycling, beautification, public education, 1-10 and litter law enforcement; and 1-11 WHEREAS, The winners will be honored at an awards luncheon, 1-12 which will be held on July 2, 1999; each of the nine cities will be 1-13 presented with an aluminum plaque signed by the governor and they 1-14 will share in a total of $1 million in landscaping projects from 1-15 TxDOT; and 1-16 WHEREAS, This year, 69 cities from across the state were 1-17 applicants in the Keep Texas Beautiful Governor's Community 1-18 Achievement Awards, and each of these communities will receive 1-19 well-deserved recognition at the awards luncheon; and 1-20 WHEREAS, The Lone Star State has long been renowned for its 1-21 visual beauty and myriad natural resources and the cities whose 1-22 residents have devoted their time and talents to preserving and 1-23 enhancing our state's scenic splendor indeed merit special 1-24 commendation; now, therefore, be it 2-1 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 2-2 Legislature hereby congratulate the winners of the 1998-1999 Keep 2-3 Texas Beautiful Governor's Community Achievement Awards and extend 2-4 to those fine cities sincere best wishes for continued success with 2-5 their beautification efforts.
