R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, Redford Elementary School in the Marfa Independent
1-2 School District has achieved significant academic success and the
1-3 institution is most worthy of special recognition; and
1-4 WHEREAS, The school is located on the Rio Grande River, 75
1-5 miles from the Marfa ISD central office, and has an enrollment of
1-6 20 students in pre-kindergarten through the sixth grade; and
1-7 WHEREAS, Under the able direction of Lynda Chew, who assumed
1-8 the post of lead teacher in 1998, the school has successfully
1-9 fulfilled several vital goals set forth by a Texas Education Agency
1-10 peer review team, including curriculum alignment, staff
1-11 development, innovative use of technology, and the development of a
1-12 parental involvement program; and
1-13 WHEREAS, Redford Elementary School has also experienced
1-14 dramatic improvement in its TAAS scores, and the 1999 TAAS results
1-15 combined with a four percent improvement in attendance have
1-16 advanced the school to a nearly exemplary rating; and
1-17 WHEREAS, Among the students who effected this positive change
1-18 in the school's test results are Noel Hernandez, Nancy Juarez,
1-19 Patricia Juarez, Leigh Ann Martinez, and Lino Rodriguez, and the
1-20 entire student body was supported in its notable scholastic efforts
1-21 by Ms. Chew and staff members Veronica Garcia, Rose Mary Martinez,
1-22 Blanca Catano, and Ruby Madrid; and
1-23 WHEREAS, Excellence in education requires patience,
1-24 sacrifice, and dedication; those qualities are truly exemplified by
2-1 the individuals associated with Redford Elementary School and it is
2-2 a privilege to honor them at this time; now, therefore, be it
2-3 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
2-4 Legislature hereby congratulate the students, staff, and parents of
2-5 Redford Elementary School on their outstanding achievements and
2-6 extend to them sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be
2-7 it further
2-8 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-9 prepared for prominent display at Redford Elementary School as an
2-10 expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
