                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The passing of Don Davis of El Campo on November 8,
 1-2     1998, at the age of 67, brought a great loss to the family and
 1-3     friends of this beloved gentleman; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, Born on August 8, 1931, in Russellville, Arkansas,
 1-5     Mr. Davis later moved to Texas and settled in El Campo in 1973; he
 1-6     had a successful career in the retail automobile business that
 1-7     began with his position as sales manager with Jesse Gibson
 1-8     Chevrolet; two years later, he opened his own business, Don Davis
 1-9     Motor Company, which specialized in late model previously owned
1-10     cars; and
1-11           WHEREAS, His purchase of Bueltel, Inc., in 1983 expanded his
1-12     business to include new cars, and he later opened new car
1-13     dealerships in Freeport, Angleton, and Bay City; in 1994, he
1-14     relocated the Freeport dealerships to Lake Jackson; and
1-15           WHEREAS, Mr. Davis married the former Phyllis Marie Sims and
1-16     the couple enjoyed a warm and happy relationship that was blessed
1-17     with two children and four cherished grandchildren; and
1-18           WHEREAS, This outstanding civic leader shared his time and
1-19     energy with many worthy civic organizations; he was a member of the
1-20     Sons of Hermann, a former president of the El Campo Chamber of
1-21     Commerce and the El Campo Rotary Club, and a board member of the El
1-22     Campo Country Club; and
1-23           WHEREAS, For his achievements, Mr. Davis received the
1-24     1997-1998 General Motors Leaders of Distinction Award and was named
 2-1     a Paul Harris Fellow by the El Campo Rotary Club; and
 2-2           WHEREAS, Those who were privileged to share the friendship of
 2-3     Don Davis deeply miss his presence, and he will surely be
 2-4     remembered with great affection and admiration for many years to
 2-5     come; now, therefore, be it
 2-6           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
 2-7     Legislature hereby honor the memory of Don Davis and extend sincere
 2-8     sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Phyllis Davis;
 2-9     to his daughter, Cherrie Lurker; to his son, Rick Davis; to his
2-10     brothers, Joe and Bill Davis; to his grandchildren; and to the many
2-11     other friends and relatives of this fine man; and, be it further
2-12           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-13     prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas
2-14     House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
2-15     Don Davis.
