                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives takes great pride
 1-2     in recognizing Dr. Joy Shaw, the 1999 Red Oak Citizen of the Year,
 1-3     for this high honor indeed merits special legislative recognition;
 1-4     and
 1-5           WHEREAS, This committed educator and community leader was
 1-6     born in Red Oak and graduated from Red Oak High School; after
 1-7     graduating from North Texas State University with a bachelor's
 1-8     degree in 1973, she returned to her hometown and began an
 1-9     exceptional career with the Red Oak Independent School District;
1-10     and
1-11           WHEREAS, From her initial assignment in the classroom, Dr.
1-12     Shaw has advanced through a number of increasingly responsible
1-13     positions to her current post as the district's director of special
1-14     education programs; and
1-15           WHEREAS, Throughout her career, she has continued to pursue
1-16     her own educational goals and has earned a master's degree from
1-17     Texas A&M University--Commerce and a doctorate in educational
1-18     leadership from Nova Southeastern University; and
1-19           WHEREAS, Dr. Shaw has also been involved in a number of
1-20     community  service organizations; she has been a director with the
1-21     Red Oak Helping Hands since the group's founding and was selected
1-22     as chair of the Ellis County Child Protective Service Board; and
1-23           WHEREAS, Dr. Shaw's dedication and willingness to help others
1-24     have earned her numerous honors, from life memberships at both the
 2-1     state and national levels of the Parent Teacher Association to
 2-2     recognition as Texas Administrator of the Year by the Association
 2-3     of Texas Professional Educators; and
 2-4           WHEREAS, She and her husband of 42 years, Nick, have seen
 2-5     their happy union blessed with four children, three of whom have
 2-6     followed in their mother's footsteps to become teachers themselves;
 2-7     her many years of commitment to her family, to her community, and
 2-8     to the schoolchildren of Red Oak are truly an inspiration, and it
 2-9     is a great pleasure to join her friends and family in recognizing
2-10     her at this time; now, therefore, be it
2-11           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
2-12     Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Joy Shaw on being named 1999
2-13     Red Oak Citizen of the Year and extend to her best wishes for
2-14     continued success and happiness; and, be it further
2-15           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-16     prepared for Dr. Shaw as an expression of high regard by the Texas
2-17     House of Representatives.
