                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, Erika Ramirez has earned the distinction of being
 1-2     the salutatorian at La Joya High School, and for achieving this
 1-3     auspicious honor, she is truly deserving of special legislative
 1-4     recognition; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, Earning the right to call oneself "salutatorian"
 1-6     requires not only intellect and aptitude, but four years of
 1-7     dedication to the highest academic standards; the salutatorian must
 1-8     display a firm understanding of the entire curriculum, from math
 1-9     and science to language arts to social studies, while demonstrating
1-10     an unwavering commitment to education; and
1-11           WHEREAS, The salutatorian serves as a role model and leads by
1-12     example, combining a steadfast vision of excellence with a
1-13     tenacious enthusiasm; the competition for this coveted honor is
1-14     often fierce, although the spirit of the rivalry remains rooted in
1-15     a tradition of goodwill, and the rewards of the countless hours of
1-16     study and preparation are myriad; and
1-17           WHEREAS, Ms. Ramirez has earned the respect and admiration of
1-18     her friends and classmates at La Joya High School, and her example
1-19     will no doubt inspire her fellow graduates to recognize and
1-20     appreciate the many possibilities available to them as they begin
1-21     this exciting new chapter in their lives; now, therefore, be it
1-22           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
1-23     Legislature hereby congratulate Erika Ramirez on being named La
1-24     Joya High School's 1999 salutatorian and commend her dedication to
 2-1     academic excellence; and, be it further
 2-2           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 2-3     prepared for Ms. Ramirez as an expression of high regard by the
 2-4     Texas House of Representatives.
