R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The recent passing of Hubert W. Cargile on May 23, 1-2 1999, at the age of 91, brought a great loss to the family and many 1-3 friends of this distinguished gentleman; and 1-4 WHEREAS, A native Texan, Mr. Cargile was born January 20, 1-5 1908, in Trenton; he was raised in Tioga in Grayson County, where 1-6 he graduated from Whitesboro High School and where he married his 1-7 wife, Mary, on June 9, 1929; and 1-8 WHEREAS, He began his employment with First National Bank in 1-9 McAlester, Oklahoma, in 1929, and two years later returned to Texas 1-10 and became the head of the accounting department at the Henderson 1-11 First National Bank; after advancing to the position of vice 1-12 president, Mr. Cargile moved to Snyder in 1949 and joined West 1-13 Texas State Bank; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Mr. Cargile began his lengthy tenure with West Texas 1-15 State Bank as a vice president and cashier, and in the ensuing 1-16 half-century he would proudly serve the bank as executive vice 1-17 president, president, chairman of the board, and senior chairman; 1-18 and 1-19 WHEREAS, Mr. Cargile served as president of South Plains 1-20 Bankers Association and on the audit and bank administration 1-21 division of the Texas Bankers Association, an organization that 1-22 honored his 50 years of devotion to the banking industry in 1989; 1-23 and 1-24 WHEREAS, A charter deacon and valued member of Colonial Hill 2-1 Baptist Church, this esteemed civic leader also donated his time 2-2 and talents to the Colorado River Municipal Water District, Buffalo 2-3 Trail Council of the Boy Scouts, Scurry County Industrial 2-4 Foundation, Scurry County United Way, Scurry County Fair 2-5 Association, American Cancer Society, Snyder Chamber of Commerce, 2-6 Snyder Kiwanis Club, and Snyder Little League; and 2-7 WHEREAS, The Snyder Citizen of the Year in 1973, Mr. Cargile 2-8 was the recipient of the Silver Beaver Award from the Boy Scouts in 2-9 1971 and the mayor award for community development in 1979; he and 2-10 his late wife also established a scholarship to enable a Scurry 2-11 County graduate to attend Western Texas College, an institution 2-12 that he served as a foundation board member; and 2-13 WHEREAS, Although Hubert W. Cargile will be deeply missed, 2-14 his spirit will live on in the hearts and minds of all those whose 2-15 lives he touched, and it is indeed fitting to honor his memory at 2-16 this time; now, therefore, be it 2-17 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 2-18 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Hubert W. Cargile and 2-19 extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his son 2-20 and daughter-in-law, Joe F. and Millaraye Cargile; to his daughter 2-21 and son-in-law, Jenny and Claude Hicks; to his brother, J. G. 2-22 Cargile; to his sister, Lela Mae Jones; to his sister-in-law, Hazel 2-23 Isbell; to his grandsons, Joe Mark Cargile and Mike Cargile; to his 2-24 great-grandchildren, Adam Cargile, Aric Cargile, Ross Cargile, and 2-25 Kristen Cargile; to his step-grandson, Bob Adams; to his 2-26 step-great-grandchildren, Toby Covington, Tyson Covington, Shayla 2-27 Faubus, Jared Faubus, Lesley Adams, and Justin Adams; and to his 3-1 many other relatives and friends; and, be it further 3-2 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 3-3 prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas 3-4 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of 3-5 Hubert W.
