R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The San Antonio Police Department was awarded 1-2 "Accredited" status by the Commission on Accreditation for Law 1-3 Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), at its meeting in Denver, 1-4 Colorado, on March 20, 1999; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Public safety agencies that receive this prestigious 1-6 designation belong to an elite group of more than 500 law 1-7 enforcement organizations in the United States, Canada, and 1-8 Barbados; and 1-9 WHEREAS, CALEA is an independent, nonprofit organization 1-10 founded by the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the 1-11 National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives, the 1-12 National Sheriff's Association, and the Police Executive Research 1-13 Forum; the commission's membership comprises chiefs, sheriffs, 1-14 elected officials, and community leaders appointed by the four 1-15 founding organizations; and 1-16 WHEREAS, To qualify for accreditation, the San Antonio Police 1-17 Department voluntarily met or exceeded all criteria in CALEA's 1-18 manual of 439 standards, addressing the areas of administration, 1-19 operation, and technical support activities; and 1-20 WHEREAS, The dedicated men and women of the San Antonio 1-21 Police Department truly exemplify the qualities of courage, duty, 1-22 and self-sacrifice, and their department's receipt of this 1-23 significant honor indeed merits special recognition; now, 1-24 therefore, be it 2-1 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 2-2 Legislature hereby congratulate the San Antonio Police Department 2-3 on its designation as "Accredited" by the Commission on 2-4 Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies and extend to the 2-5 department best wishes for continued success; and, be it further 2-6 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-7 prepared for the San Antonio Police Department as an expression of 2-8 high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
