R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor
 1-2     Irene M.  Garcia for her outstanding work as a member of the La
 1-3     Joya Independent School District Board of Trustees; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, A graduate of the La Joya ISD herself, this
 1-5     admirable woman earned her bachelor of arts degree from Pan
 1-6     American College and went on to attain a master's degree in
 1-7     education from Antioch College and a mid-management certificate
 1-8     from Texas A&I University; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, Mrs. Garcia has served with distinction on the La
1-10     Joya School Board for seven years; she was the organization's
1-11     president for two years and currently holds the office of
1-12     secretary; and
1-13           WHEREAS, A dedicated advocate of a quality education for all
1-14     the district's children, Mrs. Garcia has been equally supportive of
1-15     staff in the La Joya ISD, and she has labored to improve employee
1-16     health benefits and to extend benefits to encompass
1-17     paraprofessional and auxiliary staff; and
1-18           WHEREAS, With her fellow school board members, she has helped
1-19     individual schools in the district to garner a number of
1-20     well-deserved accolades and high ratings, such as Blue Ribbon
1-21     School status, Texas Successful School Awards, and recognition from
1-22     the Association for Compensatory Educators of Texas Title I
1-23     Students; and
1-24           WHEREAS, She has played a vital role in managing the
 2-1     district's unprecedented growth, which has included the creation of
 2-2     three elementary schools and two middle schools since 1991, as well
 2-3     as the construction of a new performing arts auditorium and
 2-4     renovation of athletic fields; and
 2-5           WHEREAS, Among the many worthy organizations she has applied
 2-6     her time and talents to are the Texas Association of School Boards
 2-7     Legislative Advisory Committee, La Joya Athletic Booster Club, and
 2-8     the Latin American Mennonite Brethren Executive Council; she is
 2-9     also a council member and deaconess at the Mennonite Brethren
2-10     Church; and
2-11           WHEREAS, Mrs. Garcia has achieved outstanding success for
2-12     local citizens during her tenure with the La Joya ISD Board of
2-13     Trustees; her determined efforts have significantly benefited the
2-14     cause of education in the La Joya area, and she is indeed worthy of
2-15     special recognition at this time; now, therefore, be it
2-16           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
2-17     Legislature hereby commend Irene M. Garcia for her many notable
2-18     achievements in behalf of her fellow citizens and extend to her
2-19     sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it
2-20     further
2-21           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-22     prepared for Mrs. Garcia as an expression of high regard by the
2-23     Texas House of Representatives.
