R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Though the end of another regular session is 1-2 generally cause for great celebration among the staff of the Texas 1-3 Legislative Council, this year that happiness is tempered somewhat 1-4 as the staff must bid farewell to one of its own, Jayne Gottschall, 1-5 on the occasion of her retirement; and 1-6 WHEREAS, A native of Rockdale, this lovely lady first burst 1-7 onto the scene some 30 years ago when she was hired by assistant 1-8 director John Potter to work in the council's typing pool, and it 1-9 was obvious right from the start that she had found the state 1-10 agency where she belonged; and 1-11 WHEREAS, From miniskirts to motherhood to retirement, 1-12 Ms. Gottschall has remained with the council for three decades, 1-13 during which time she set high standards that many aspire to, but 1-14 few can approach; and 1-15 WHEREAS, While employed as a typist, she was quickly singled 1-16 out for her expertise and trustworthiness, and when the council 1-17 became the first state agency to use the avant-garde magnetic tape 1-18 Selectric typewriters, Ms. Gottschall was chosen to run the 1-19 composer and was also the only employee in the pool who was allowed 1-20 to see and type the agency's payroll, which had to be completed 1-21 without a single error; and 1-22 WHEREAS, Over the course of her career with the council, 1-23 Ms. Gottschall raised five beloved children, Darrell, Dawn, Darren, 1-24 Geno, and Michael, spacing them sufficiently apart so that she 2-1 could in effect raise two families, and the dedication and love she 2-2 put into raising these outstanding young Texans truly defined the 2-3 term "working mother" for many council staff; and 2-4 WHEREAS, Ms. Gottschall's maternal side has benefited not 2-5 only her children but the employees of the council as well, for in 2-6 her current post as assistant manager of staff services and 2-7 facilities management for the administration division, she has 2-8 exhibited the patience and humor that can be found only in a 2-9 seasoned veteran of motherhood as the person responsible for 2-10 supervising the council's messenger staff; and 2-11 WHEREAS, While managing the messengers, Ms. Gottschall has 2-12 also overseen the distribution of the mail, parking assignments, 2-13 identification cards, and countless other tasks that make the 2-14 council tick, and her absence will be keenly felt for many years to 2-15 come by all who have been privileged to work with her; now, 2-16 therefore, be it 2-17 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 2-18 Legislature hereby commend Jayne Gottschall on her exemplary career 2-19 with the Texas Legislative Council and extend to her sincere best 2-20 wishes for a very happy and rewarding retirement; and, be it 2-21 further 2-22 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-23 prepared for Ms. Gottschall as an expression of high regard by the 2-24 Texas House of Representatives.
