By Solis of Cameron H.R. No. 1374 76R18200 GMW-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The recent passing of Jose C. Montemayor of San 1-2 Benito on May 26, 1999, brought a great loss to the family and many 1-3 friends of this distinguished gentleman; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Mr. Montemayor served with distinction as a sergeant 1-5 in the United States Army during World War II, and was responsible 1-6 for leading and supervising 12 infantrymen in the attack, capture, 1-7 and holding of enemy positions in the treacherous terrain of the 1-8 Rhineland, Naples-Foggia, and Southern France; and 1-9 WHEREAS, While fighting for the cause of freedom in the hills 1-10 of France on August 24, 1944, Sergeant Montemayor was wounded by 1-11 shrapnel from a grenade, and this event, as well as his valiant 1-12 service, earned him the prestigious Purple Heart; and 1-13 WHEREAS, Following his discharge from the army on September 1-14 22, 1945, Mr. Montemayor worked as a bus driver in Chicago and San 1-15 Benito, where he was also active in farming; a devoted husband and 1-16 father, he derived immeasurable joy throughout his life from his 1-17 beloved family, to whom he was a constant source of strength and 1-18 inspiration; and 1-19 WHEREAS, Although Jose C. Montemayor will be deeply missed, 1-20 his spirit will live on in the hearts and minds of all those whose 1-21 lives he touched, and it is indeed fitting to honor his memory at 1-22 this time; now, therefore, be it 1-23 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 1-24 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Jose C. Montemayor 2-1 and extend sincere sympathy to his wife, Rosa Montemayor, and to 2-2 his many other relatives and friends; and, be it further 2-3 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-4 prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas 2-5 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of 2-6 Jose C. Montemayor.
