No. 74 1-2 (In the Senate - Filed December 2, 1998; January 26, 1999, 1-3 read first time and referred to Committee on State Affairs; 1-4 March 8, 1999, reported favorably by the following vote: Yeas 6, 1-5 Nays 0; March 8, 1999, sent to printer.) 1-6 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 1-7 AN ACT 1-8 relating to the designation of a portion of State Highway 44 as the 1-9 Cesar Chavez Memorial Highway. 1-10 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-11 SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 225, Transportation Code, 1-12 is amended by adding Section 225.041 to read as follows: 1-13 Sec. 225.041. Cesar Chavez Memorial Highway. (a) State 1-14 Highway 44 from the city limits of Corpus Christi to the city 1-15 limits of Robstown is designated as the Cesar Chavez Memorial 1-16 Highway. 1-17 (b) The department shall design and construct memorial 1-18 markers indicating the highway number, the designation as the Cesar 1-19 Chavez Memorial Highway, and any other appropriate information. 1-20 (c) The department shall erect a marker at each end of the 1-21 highway and at appropriate intermediate sites along the highway. 1-22 SECTION 2. The importance of this legislation and the 1-23 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an 1-24 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the 1-25 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several 1-26 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended, 1-27 and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its 1-28 passage, and it is so enacted. 1-29 * * * * *
