No. 232 By: Ellis 1-9 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 1-10 AN ACT 1-11 relating to the notification of a court on the discharge of a 1-12 person from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice or release on 1-13 parole or mandatory supervision. 1-14 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-15 SECTION 1. Chapter 493, Government Code, is amended by 1-16 adding Section 493.023 to read as follows: 1-17 Sec. 493.023. NOTIFICATION TO COURT OF RELEASE. On release 1-18 of an inmate who discharges the inmate's sentence or on release of 1-19 an inmate on parole or mandatory supervision, the department 1-20 promptly shall notify the clerk of the court in which the inmate 1-21 was convicted of that fact. 1-22 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 1999. 1-23 SECTION 3. The importance of this legislation and the 1-24 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an 1-25 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the 1-26 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several 1-27 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended. 1-28 * * * * *
