                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
                                       AN ACT
 1-1     relating to the charge for providing public information requested
 1-2     for an official purpose by a governmental body under the open
 1-3     records law.
 1-4           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-5           SECTION 1.  Section 552.267, Government Code, is amended by
 1-6     adding Subsection (c) to read as follows:
 1-7           (c)  A governmental body shall provide without charge one
 1-8     copy of public information that is requested for an official
 1-9     purpose by another governmental body provided, however, that if the
1-10     charge for producing one copy exceeds:  (1)  $500 for a
1-11     governmental body that employs more than 10 full-time employees; or
1-12     (2)  $100 for a governmental body that employs 10 or fewer
1-13     full-time employees, the requesting governmental body shall, upon
1-14     request, pay the costs for producing the information.
1-15           SECTION 2.  The importance of this legislation and the
1-16     crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
1-17     emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
1-18     constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
1-19     days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
