AN ACT 1-1 relating to special license plates benefitting the Girl Scouts. 1-2 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-3 SECTION 1. Subchapter F, Chapter 502, Transportation Code, 1-4 is amended by adding Section 502.2931 to read as follows: 1-5 Sec. 502.2931. GIRL SCOUT LICENSE PLATES. (a) The 1-6 department shall issue specially designed Girl Scout license plates 1-7 for passenger cars and light trucks. 1-8 (b) The license plates must include the words "Girl Scouts." 1-9 (c) The department shall design the license plates in 1-10 consultation with the Girl Scout Councils of Texas. 1-11 (d) The department shall issue license plates under this 1-12 section to a person who: 1-13 (1) applies to the county assessor-collector of the 1-14 county in which the person resides on a form provided by the 1-15 department; and 1-16 (2) pays an annual fee of $30, in addition to the fee 1-17 prescribed by Section 502.161 or Section 502.162, and, if 1-18 personalized prestige license plates are issued, in addition to the 1-19 fee prescribed by Section 502.251. 1-20 (e) The department shall deposit $20 of each fee collected 1-21 under this section to the credit of the Girl Scout account in the 1-22 state treasury. Money in the account may be used by the Texas 1-23 Higher Education Coordinating Board in making grants to benefit 1-24 educational projects sponsored by the Girl Scout Councils of Texas. 2-1 (f) The remainder of each fee collected under this section, 2-2 after deposit as provided by Subsection (e), shall be deposited to 2-3 the credit of the state highway fund and may be used only to defray 2-4 the cost of administering this section. 2-5 (g) If license plates issued under this section are lost, 2-6 stolen, or mutilated, the owner of the vehicle for which the 2-7 license plates were issued may obtain replacement license plates 2-8 from the department by paying a replacement fee of $5. If the 2-9 owner of a vehicle registered under this section disposes of the 2-10 vehicle during the registration year, the owner shall return the 2-11 special license plates to the department. 2-12 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 1999. 2-13 SECTION 3. The importance of this legislation and the 2-14 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an 2-15 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the 2-16 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several 2-17 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended. _______________________________ _______________________________ President of the Senate Speaker of the House I hereby certify that S.B.
