No. 344 76R4431 CAG-D A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 1-1 AN ACT 1-2 relating to graduate level instruction at Texas A&M University at 1-3 Galveston. 1-4 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-5 SECTION 1. Section 87.201(a), Education Code, is amended to 1-6 read as follows: 1-7 (a) Texas A&M University at Galveston is a special purpose 1-8 institution of higher education for undergraduate and graduate 1-9 instruction in marine and maritime studies in science, engineering, 1-10 and business and for research and public service related to the 1-11 general field of marine resources. The institution is under the 1-12 management and control of the board of regents of The Texas A&M 1-13 University System, with degrees offered under the name and 1-14 authority of Texas A&M University at College Station. The board of 1-15 regents of The Texas A&M University System shall have the authority 1-16 to designate Texas A&M University at Galveston as a branch of Texas 1-17 A&M University; however, such designation, if made, shall not 1-18 change the role and mission of Texas A&M University at Galveston as 1-19 specified in this section. 1-20 SECTION 2. The importance of this legislation and the 1-21 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an 1-22 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the 1-23 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several 1-24 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended, 2-1 and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its 2-2 passage, and it is so enacted.
