No. 432 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED AN ACT 1-1 relating to the designation of an initial or a renewal registration 1-2 period by the owner of a motor vehicle or a trailer. 1-3 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-4 SECTION 1. Subchapter D, Chapter 502, Transportation Code, 1-5 is amended by adding Section 502.1585 to read as follows: 1-6 Sec. 502.1585. DESIGNATION OF REGISTRATION PERIOD BY OWNER. 1-7 (a) This section applies only to a person who owns more than one 1-8 motor vehicle or trailer that is subject to registration under this 1-9 chapter. 1-10 (b) Notwithstanding Section 502.158, the owner of a motor 1-11 vehicle or a trailer may designate an initial or a renewal 1-12 registration period for that vehicle so that the registration 1-13 period for the vehicle or trailer expires on the same date as the 1-14 registration period for another vehicle or trailer previously 1-15 registered by that owner. 1-16 (c) A registration period designated under this section must 1-17 begin on the first day of a calendar month and end on the last day 1-18 of a calendar month and may not be for less than 12 months. 1-19 (d) The registration fee for a registration period 1-20 designated under this section is computed at a rate of one-twelfth 1-21 the annual registration fee multiplied by the number of months in 1-22 the designated registration period. 1-23 (e) The department shall issue an applicant for registration 1-24 who pays registration fees for a designated period under this 2-1 section a registration receipt and registration insignia that are 2-2 valid until the expiration of the designated period. 2-3 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 1999. 2-4 SECTION 3. The importance of this legislation and the 2-5 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an 2-6 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the 2-7 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several 2-8 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
