                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to county expenses paid from the interest on certain court
 1-3     registry funds.
 1-4           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-5           SECTION 1.  Section 117.054(b), Local Government Code, is
 1-6     amended to read as follows:
 1-7           (b)  The interest earned on a special account or a separate
 1-8     account shall be paid in the following amounts:
 1-9                 (1)  for interest earned on or after September 1, 1997:
1-10                       (A)  10 percent of the interest shall be paid to
1-11     the general fund of the county to compensate the county for the
1-12     accounting and administrative expenses of maintaining the account;
1-13     and
1-14                       (B) [(2)]  90 percent of the interest shall be
1-15     credited to the special or separate account; or
1-16                 (2)  for interest earned before September 1, 1997, 100
1-17     percent of the interest shall be credited to the special or
1-18     separate account.
1-19           SECTION 2.  This Act applies only to a special or separate
1-20     account for which a county or district clerk acts as custodian that
1-21     is withdrawn on or after the effective date of this Act.
1-22           SECTION 3.  The importance of this legislation and the
1-23     crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
1-24     emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
 2-1     constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
 2-2     days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended,
 2-3     and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its
 2-4     passage, and it is so enacted.
