1-6 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
1-7 AN ACT
1-8 relating to the designated route of La Entrada al Pacifico
1-9 Corridor.
1-10 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-11 SECTION 1. Section 225.034, Transportation Code, as added by
1-12 Section 1, Chapter 595, Acts of the 75th Legislature, Regular
1-13 Session, 1997, is redesignated as Section 225.040 and amended to
1-14 read as follows:
1-15 Sec. 225.040 [225.034]. LA ENTRADA AL PACIFICO CORRIDOR.
1-16 (a) The following highways and any portion of a highway in a
1-17 corridor on two miles of either side of the center line of the
1-18 highway are designated as [the future route of] La Entrada al
1-19 Pacifico Corridor:
1-20 (1) State Highway 349 from Lamesa to the point on that
1-21 highway that is closest to 32 degrees, 7 minutes, north latitude,
1-22 by 102 degrees, 6 minutes, west longitude [Midland];
1-23 (2) the segment or any roadway extending from the
1-24 point described by Subdivision (1) to the point on Farm-to-Market
1-25 Road 1788 closest to 32 degrees, 0 minutes, north latitude, by 102
1-26 degrees, 16 minutes, west longitude;
1-27 (3) Farm-to-Market Road 1788 from the point described
1-28 by Subdivision (2) to its intersection with Interstate Highway 20
1-29 [from Midland to Odessa];
1-30 (4) Interstate Highway 20 from its intersection with
1-31 Farm-to-Market Road 1788 to its intersection with United States
1-32 Highway 385;
1-33 (5) [(3)] United States Highway 385 from Odessa to
1-34 Fort Stockton, including those portions that parallel United States
1-35 Highway 67 and Interstate Highway 10; and
1-36 (6) [(4)] United States Highway 67 from Fort Stockton
1-37 to Presidio, including those portions that parallel Interstate
1-38 Highway 10 and United States Highway 90.
1-39 (b) The department shall design and construct commemorative
1-40 markers to be placed along the corridor indicating the highway
1-41 number, its designation as the future route of La Entrada al
1-42 Pacifico Corridor, and any other appropriate information.
1-43 (c) The department shall erect a commemorative marker at
1-44 each end of the memorial highway and at intermediate sites along
1-45 the highway that the department determines are appropriate.
1-46 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 1999.
1-47 SECTION 3. The importance of this legislation and the
1-48 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
1-49 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
1-50 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
1-51 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
