AN ACT 1-1 relating to continuing education courses and programs for public 1-2 school educators. 1-3 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-4 SECTION 1. Section 8.053, Education Code, is amended to read 1-5 as follows: 1-6 Sec. 8.053. ADDITIONAL SERVICES. In addition to the 1-7 services provided under Section 8.051 and the initiatives 1-8 implemented under Section 8.052, a regional education service 1-9 center may: 1-10 (1) offer any service requested and purchased by any 1-11 school district or campus in the state; and 1-12 (2) contract with a public or private entity for 1-13 services under this subchapter, including the provision of 1-14 continuing education courses and programs for educators. 1-15 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 1999. 1-16 SECTION 3. The importance of this legislation and the 1-17 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an 1-18 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the 1-19 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several 1-20 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended. _______________________________ _______________________________ President of the Senate Speaker of the House I hereby certify that S.B.
