By: Lucio S.B. No. 754 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED AN ACT 1-1 relating to the issuance of special license plates in honor of the 1-2 citrus industry in Texas. 1-3 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-4 SECTION 1. Subchapter F, Chapter 502, Transportation Code, 1-5 is amended by adding Section 502.299 to read as follows: 1-6 Sec. 502.299. TEXAS CITRUS INDUSTRY. (a) The department 1-7 shall issue specially designed license plates for passenger cars 1-8 and light trucks in honor of the citrus industry in this state. 1-9 (b) The department shall issue license plates under this 1-10 section to a person who: 1-11 (1) applies to the county assessor-collector of the 1-12 county in which the person resides on a form provided by the 1-13 department; and 1-14 (2) pays the annual fee established by the department 1-15 under Subsection (c), in addition to the fee prescribed by Section 1-16 502.161, and, if personalized prestige license plates are issued, 1-17 in addition to the fee prescribed by Section 502.251. 1-18 (c) The department by rule shall establish the annual fee 1-19 for registration under this section in an amount that, when added 1-20 to the other fees collected by the department, does not exceed the 1-21 amount sufficient to recover the actual cost to the department of 1-22 issuing license plates under this section. 1-23 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 1999. 1-24 SECTION 3. The importance of this legislation and the 2-1 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an 2-2 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the 2-3 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several 2-4 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
