 1-8                            A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-9                                   AN ACT
1-10     relating to member contributions to the Judicial Retirement System
1-11     of Texas Plan Two.
1-12           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-13           SECTION 1.  Section 840.102, Government Code, is amended by
1-14     amending Subsection (a)  and adding Subsection (g) to read as
1-15     follows:
1-16           (a)  Except as provided by Subsection (g), each [Each]
1-17     payroll period, a judicial officer who is a member of the
1-18     retirement system is required to contribute six percent of the
1-19     officer's state compensation for the period to the retirement
1-20     system.
1-21           (g)  A member who accrues 20 years of service credit in the
1-22     retirement system ceases making contributions under this section
1-23     but is considered a contributing member for all other purposes
1-24     under this subtitle.
1-25           SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 1999.
1-26           SECTION 3.  The importance of this legislation and the
1-27     crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
1-28     emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
1-29     constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
1-30     days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
