A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
1-1 relating to the components and facilities of the regional academic
1-2 health center of The University of Texas System in the Lower Rio
1-3 Grande Valley region.
1-4 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-5 SECTION 1. Subsection (a), Section 65.02, Education Code, is
1-6 amended to read as follows:
1-7 (a) The University of Texas System is composed of the
1-8 following institutions and entities:
1-9 (1) The University of Texas at Arlington, including
1-10 (A) The University of Texas Institute of Urban
1-11 Studies at Arlington; and
1-12 (B) The University of Texas School of Nursing at
1-13 Arlington;
1-14 (2) The University of Texas at Austin, including
1-15 (A) The University of Texas Marine Science
1-16 Institute;
1-17 (B) The University of Texas McDonald Observatory
1-18 at Mount Locke; and
1-19 (C) The University of Texas School of Nursing at
1-20 Austin;
1-21 (3) The University of Texas at Dallas;

4-17 SECTION 2. Section 74.613, Education Code, is amended to
4-18 read as follows:
4-19 Sec. 74.613. FACILITIES. (a) The physical facilities of the
4-20 regional academic health center used in its teaching and research
4-21 programs, including libraries, auditoriums, research facilities,
4-22 and medical education buildings, may be provided by a public or
4-23 private entity. A physical facility may be constructed,
4-24 maintained, or operated with state money appropriated for that
4-25 purpose.
4-26 (b) The facilities and associated programs operated by the
5-1 regional academic health center in or near any municipality in the
5-2 counties served by the center shall be designated as "The
5-3 University of Texas (insert name of appropriate component
5-4 institution) Regional Academic Health Center at (insert name of
5-5 municipality)."
5-6 SECTION 3. The importance of this legislation and the
5-7 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
5-8 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
5-9 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
5-10 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended,
5-11 and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its
5-12 passage, and it is so enacted.
5-13 COMMITTEE AMENDMENT NO. 1
5-14 Amend S.B. No. 893, in SECTION 1 of the bill, as follows:
5-15 (1) At the end of proposed Section 65.02(a)(10)(F),
5-16 Education Code (engrossed printing page 4, line 5), strike "and".
5-17 (2) Immediately following "and" at the end of proposed
5-18 Section 65.02(a)(10)(G), Education Code (engrossed printing page 4,
5-19 line 8), insert the following:
5-20 (H) The University of Texas Health Science
5-21 Center at San Antonio Regional Academic Health Center at McAllen,
5-22 if the board approves a facility and a program for that entity;
