1-8 AN ACT
1-9 relating to the components and facilities of the regional academic
1-10 health center of The University of Texas System in the Lower Rio
1-11 Grande Valley region.
1-12 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-13 SECTION 1. Subsection (a), Section 65.02, Education Code, is
1-14 amended to read as follows:
1-15 (a) The University of Texas System is composed of the
1-16 following institutions and entities:
1-17 (1) The University of Texas at Arlington, including
1-18 (A) The University of Texas Institute of Urban
1-19 Studies at Arlington; and
1-20 (B) The University of Texas School of Nursing at
1-21 Arlington;
1-22 (2) The University of Texas at Austin, including
1-23 (A) The University of Texas Marine Science
1-24 Institute;
1-25 (B) The University of Texas McDonald Observatory

2-37 SECTION 2. Section 74.613, Education Code, is amended to
2-38 read as follows:
2-39 Sec. 74.613. FACILITIES. (a) The physical facilities of the
2-40 regional academic health center used in its teaching and research
2-41 programs, including libraries, auditoriums, research facilities,
2-42 and medical education buildings, may be provided by a public or
2-43 private entity. A physical facility may be constructed,
2-44 maintained, or operated with state money appropriated for that
2-45 purpose.
2-46 (b) The facilities and associated programs operated by the
2-47 regional academic health center in or near any municipality in the
2-48 counties served by the center shall be designated as "The
2-49 University of Texas (insert name of appropriate component
2-50 institution) Regional Academic Health Center at (insert name of
2-51 municipality)."
2-52 SECTION 3. The importance of this legislation and the
2-53 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
2-54 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
2-55 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
2-56 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended,
2-57 and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its
2-58 passage, and it is so enacted.
