No. 993 1-2 (In the Senate - Filed March 8, 1999; March 10, 1999, read 1-3 first time and referred to Committee on Education; April 16, 1999, 1-4 reported favorably by the following vote: Yeas 8, Nays 0; 1-5 April 16, 1999, sent to printer.) 1-6 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 1-7 AN ACT 1-8 relating to the ability of children of disabled firemen and peace 1-9 officers to use an exemption from tuition and fees charged by a 1-10 public institution of higher education at successive institutions. 1-11 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-12 SECTION 1. Subsection (e), Section 54.204, Education Code, 1-13 is repealed. 1-14 SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies 1-15 beginning with the 1999 fall semester. 1-16 SECTION 3. The importance of this legislation and the 1-17 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an 1-18 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the 1-19 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several 1-20 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended, 1-21 and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its 1-22 passage, and it is so enacted. 1-23 * * * * *
