By: Wentworth S.B. No. 1169 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED AN ACT 1-1 relating to advertising in the Texas driver's handbook. 1-2 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-3 SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 521, Transportation Code, 1-4 is amended by adding Section 521.006 to read as follows: 1-5 Sec. 521.006. ADVERTISING IN DRIVER'S HANDBOOK. (a) Except 1-6 as provided by Subsection (c), the department may sell advertising 1-7 in any driver's handbook that the department publishes. 1-8 (b) The department shall deposit the proceeds from the 1-9 advertising to the credit of the driver's handbook advertising 1-10 account. The driver's handbook advertising account is an account 1-11 in the general revenue fund that may be appropriated only for the 1-12 purpose of administration of this chapter. 1-13 (c) The department may not sell advertising that promotes 1-14 the sale of an alcoholic beverage, as defined in Section 1.04, 1-15 Alcoholic Beverage Code, or that promotes the business of a person 1-16 who manufactures, sells, or distributes an alcoholic beverage. 1-17 COMMITTEE AMENDMENT NO. 1 1-18 Amend S.B. No. 1169 by striking Section 521.006(c), 1-19 Transportation Code, as added by SECTION 1 of the bill (Engrossed 1-20 version, page 1, lines 13-16), and substituting the following: 1-21 (c) The department may not include in the driver's handbook 1-22 advertising for an alcoholic beverage or a product promoting 1-23 alcoholic beverages. 1-24 76R13928 DWS-F Turner of Coleman
