                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to the operation of overweight vehicles on certain county
 1-3     roads and bridges.
 1-4           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-5           SECTION 1.  Section 623.018, Transportation Code, is amended
 1-6     by adding Subsection (f) to read as follows:
 1-7           (f)  A vehicle that has a permit issued under Section 623.011
 1-8     and that weighs more than the load limit set for a county road or
 1-9     bridge may operate on the road or bridge only if the operator of
1-10     the vehicle provides the county with notice by telephone at least
1-11     24 hours before the vehicle is to be operated over the road or
1-12     bridge.  Each county shall designate an office and a telephone
1-13     number for receipt of notice under this subsection and submit that
1-14     information to the department.  If the county changes a designated
1-15     office or telephone number, the county shall submit the new
1-16     information to the department. The department shall maintain a
1-17     comprehensive list of the office and telephone number for each
1-18     county and make the list available to a holder of a permit issued
1-19     under Section 623.011.
1-20           SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 1999.
1-21           SECTION 3.  The importance of this legislation and the
1-22     crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
1-23     emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
1-24     constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
 2-1     days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
