No. 1577 1-2 (In the Senate - Filed March 12, 1999; March 15, 1999, read 1-3 first time and referred to Committee on Criminal Justice; 1-4 April 12, 1999, reported favorably by the following vote: Yeas 7, 1-5 Nays 0; April 12, 1999, sent to printer.) 1-6 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 1-7 AN ACT 1-8 relating to training for parole officers who supervise gang members 1-9 released from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice on parole or 1-10 mandatory supervision. 1-11 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-12 SECTION 1. Subchapter D, Chapter 508, Government Code, is 1-13 amended by adding Section 508.1141 to read as follows: 1-14 Sec. 508.1141. SPECIALIZED TRAINING: GANG MEMBERS. The 1-15 department shall develop and provide specialized training for 1-16 parole officers supervising releasees previously identified by the 1-17 department as being members of prison gangs, criminal street gangs, 1-18 or security threat groups. 1-19 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 1999. 1-20 SECTION 3. The importance of this legislation and the 1-21 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an 1-22 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the 1-23 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several 1-24 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended. 1-25 * * * * *
