1-8 relating to registration fees for surviving spouses of certain

1-10 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-11 SECTION 1. Subsection (c), Section 502.266, Transportation
1-12 Code, is amended to read as follows:
1-13 (c) The surviving spouse of a person who was killed in
1-14 action while serving in the United States armed forces is entitled
1-15 to register one or more motor vehicles under Section 502.258 as
1-16 long as the spouse remains unmarried. A person entitled to
1-17 register under this subsection may register one passenger car or

1-22 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 1999, and
1-23 applies only to a registration period beginning on or after the
1-24 effective date of this Act.
1-25 SECTION 3. The importance of this legislation and the
1-26 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
1-27 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
1-28 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
1-29 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
