No. 1659 1-2 (In the Senate - Filed March 12, 1999; March 15, 1999, read 1-3 first time and referred to Committee on Natural Resources; 1-4 April 15, 1999, reported favorably by the following vote: Yeas 5, 1-5 Nays 0; April 15, 1999, sent to printer.) 1-6 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 1-7 AN ACT 1-8 relating to the establishment of the office of district treasurer 1-9 of Brazos River Harbor Navigation District of Brazoria County. 1-10 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-11 SECTION 1. Chapter 55, Acts of the 40th Legislature, 1st 1-12 Called Session, 1927, is amended by adding Sections 4d and 4e to 1-13 read as follows: 1-14 Sec. 4d. There is hereby established the office of district 1-15 treasurer of Brazos River Harbor Navigation District of Brazoria 1-16 County, which office shall be held by the person who, from time to 1-17 time, shall be appointed by the Board of Navigation and Canal 1-18 Commissioners of the District. The district treasurer shall 1-19 perform all duties for the District as have previously been 1-20 performed by the County Treasurer of Brazoria County. 1-21 The Tax Assessor and Collector for Brazoria County or such 1-22 other official performing the duties of Tax Assessor and Collector 1-23 for the District shall hereafter deposit all taxes collected for 1-24 the District in the depository bank that is, from time to time, 1-25 designated as depository for Brazoria County and forthwith transfer 1-26 and deposit said funds to the account of the District in the 1-27 depository bank that is from time to time designated as depository 1-28 for the District. 1-29 Sec. 4e. Before receiving any District funds from any 1-30 source, the district treasurer shall execute a good and sufficient 1-31 bond payable to the Board of Navigation and Canal Commissioners for 1-32 the benefit of the District in an amount fixed and approved by the 1-33 Board. 1-34 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 1999. 1-35 SECTION 3. The importance of this legislation and the 1-36 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an 1-37 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the 1-38 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several 1-39 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended. 1-40 * * * * *
